A little paint, a little wine, and you've got a party.

Date Published:

Thursday, February 09

Ever noticed how much more artistic you feel when you have a few glasses of wine under your belt? Well Canvas Mixers decided to expand on creative alcoholic juices and make a party out of it!
Canvas Mixers is a team of talented painters who decided that mixing acrylics and alcohol equalled a pretty lively party, so they blended the perfect mix of Bob Ross style art classes with the fun of a bottle of wine, and we are hosting them here!

On March 15th, they will set up here with their drop clothes and brushes, and all you have to do is buy a ticket and show up! They guide you through covering a 16x20 canvas with a fantastic masterpiece while you sip some vino. The whole class lasts three hours, with breaks in between for you to taste and nibble. All of our wine will be available by the glass, carafe, or bottle, and we are even featuring a special sangria that we have appropriately named 'The Painter's Pitcher'. Feel free to bring some snacks of your own or order off of our light fare menu.

Ticket's are available on the Canvas Mixer website only, for more information or ticket purchase click here.

Living Social Expiration Confusion

Date Published:

Monday, January 09

Due to a mistake on our Living Social deal, some of the first purchasers might have an expiration date for the deal of January 9th 2012. That date is incorrect, the actual expiration date for the deal is April 30th 2012. If your voucher says the incorrect expiration date, we will still except it up to the correct expiration date. So please do not fret! There is still plenty of time to redeem them. Please call the winery with any other questions. Hope to see you soon!

In remembrance of the warmer weather

Date Published:

Friday, December 09

We received a wonderful poem from our friend and neighbor Robert Norton. It reflects on the summer festivals and warmer months. We thought with the beginning of a cold season ahead of us, we thought we would warm you up with some words. Thank you Robert!

The Wine Festival

The music blares from the stage under the towering oak,
and the people come and go in the company of friends
carrying blankets, chairs, and bags as the children run.

Everyone looks for shade and a place near the stage where
they can feel the music, but can still talk and listen as they
eat their food and drink the fresh wine sold in the white tents.

The afternoon plays on, and the shadows lengthen
as the band breaks, and the breeze springs up to cool the
playing children and their watching parents, and the wine.

Early evening is a time of mellowness as the festival
draws to its end, but the people seem unwilling to break
the magic of the day spent in fun and spirited pleasure.

But the music stops, as if to signal that the time for goodbyes
is close upon us, and we need to begin to change our
positions from relaxed pleasure to definite purpose.

The bottles clink as they are deposited in the containers
provided, and the people gather up the brought trappings
and leave behind only memories on the trampled grass.

The festival is complete in a single cycle of beginning,
performance, and ending; the players came and participated
and took with them the memories of a day in the warm sun.

Thanksgiving Wine Pairings

Date Published:

Saturday, November 19

Hello Bellview Wine fans!

We've fielded a lot of questions lately about Thanksgiving wine parings (and rightfully so; it's only a week away!) A great deal of anguish can go into Thanksgiving, we find. Not only are you trying to control the precise temperature of all parts of a 22lb bird, but you are forced to do it with the anticipation of your entire family critiquing it later. Plus you have the added stress of talking Grandma Ruth out of bringing her famous 'Port cheese and green bean brisket toasts' without hurting her feelings, and your in-laws wondering in loud whispers whether Uncle Benny's pie crusts are made with gamey goose-fat again like they were last year. Our opinion? You need some wine. So let us help you find the perfect one.
Turkey is surprisingly difficult to pair with wine, because the preference comes down to whether you will be eating light or dark meat. However, the rest of a Thanksgiving meal has much to do with rich, hearty, starchy foods like stuffing and potatoes with gravy. If your Thanksgiving meal with be of more the traditional sort, we recommend a medium-bodied red. Our Merlot would be a classic pairing, especially with its green olive and violet notes; it's on the lighter side, but would really hold up to a big pile of stuffing. Especially dishes with celery or carrots that have a slight bitterness, the Merlot should end up tasting more berry-like and floral than olive-filled and tannin-heavy. An alternative to Merlot would be our Chambourcin; it has notes similar to Merlot but harbours more fruit and lighter tannins, resulting in a wine pairing that is more suited to Bobby, the newly-21-year-old, whose plate will be more oriented towards baked squashes and cranberry sauce.
Another classic red pairing would be our Syrah. With its silky cocoa undertones it serves as a bolder choice for red lovers. Not too heavy, but richer-bodied than a Merlot, it would be a fantastic way to cut some of the fatty taste out of dark meat, thus creating a more balanced palate. However you would really need the dark meat for this wine to not over-power the turkey, so this might not be a good choice for Aunt Sally who recently started the Atkins diet and swears by Pinot Grigio.
For white wines the top choices from our staff would be our Chardonnay Reserve or our Viognier. The Chardonnay is a fantastic staple, and ours hold up to turkey with its oak finish, and will not leave your mouth with the feeling of having just sipped melted butter, as some more intense California-style Chardonnays will do. Viognior has a creamy mouth-feel similar to Chardonnay, but is more fruit-oriented with rich tropical tastes, and still maintains a dry finish.
After asking the staff what wine they themselves would pair however, there was one clear cut answer. From Dave, who prefers dry medium-bodied reds, to Crystal who prefers our sweeter Fiesta, and even Dustin who swears by Lemberger, each one of them took no more than a half second upon being asked, to blurt out "cranberry." With its tangy tartness and true-to-the-fruit sweetness, it suits every dish on your table. Its a fun, non-traditional option to brighten you and your family's palate. For an extra-special treat, try mixing a splash of our cranberry with our Lettizzia sparkling wine. And if that doesn't ease your turkey anxiety, we don't know what will!

Cheers to you from the Bellview crew, and we wish you many happy and perfectly cooked Thanksgiving dinners!

Locavore weekend!

Date Published:

Friday, November 04

Did you know that November is officially New Jersey Wine Month? In the spirit of celebrating local wine, we will be celebrating what we're calling a "Locavore weekend" on Saturday and Sunday, November 12th and 13th, from 11am to 5pm each day. A locavore is a person who eats a local diet, sourcing food from their own area that has not been transported long distances. The Locavore movement has been gaining strength in this country over the past several years, as more of us realize that our food choices are important politically, environmentally, economically and healthfully. Our special event will feature several selected area establishments, who will bring in the local foodstuffs they offer - cheeses, baked goods, honey, vinegar, produce and more. These delectable edibles will be available for sampling and to purchase. Bellview’s wines, produced exclusively with grapes grown in their Landisville vineyards or from fruit grown here in south Jersey, will be poured for tasting, and will also be sold by the glass or bottle. The winery will add a special Locavore Platter to their regular Light Fare menu for the weekend, which will include locally produced herbed cheddar cheese, dried grape tomatoes from the owner’s garden, and multigrain bread from Vineland’s Sweet Life bakery. The winery will also offer samples of dishes featuring seasonal produce from neighboring farms along with their recipes, so you can recreate them at home. Admission for the afternoon is $5.00 per person, children are free. Admission includes parking, wine tasting, food sampling and a souvenir wine glass.

Hope to see you then!

How dare it rain on our event!

It is our unfortunate duty to report that we will be canceling our Halloween costume party for this Saturday. Due to bad weather we felt it just wouldn't be right (especially for those of you planning your Lady Gaga stage costume, we fear you'd be too chilly to enjoy yourselves). We will still have a special seasonal platter for sale from now until Thanksgiving, and there will be plenty of Jersey Devil wine for sale for you to pair with your Halloween candy, but the Halloween costume party will have to be postponed until next year.

However, for those of you running in the vampire sprint, we will still be here for 9am registration and the course will still be groomed and ready for a fantastic Lymphoma/Leukemia cure supporting stampede! for more information on the run, please visit www.vampiresprint5k.com

It's not just all about the sugar!

Date Published:

Friday, September 30

Now that most wineries across the Northern Hemisphere are in the midst of harvest, there is a lot of talk about when to harvest in relation to sugar/brix levels. Although this is an indicator as to when the grapes are getting ready to be harvested, this is by far not the only determination in deciding when to harvest. There are actually 3 different CATEGORIES which are used to decide when to harvest: quantitative, qualitative, and objective.

Quantitative are the easiest indicators of when to harvest because they are specific measurements you can take from the grapes such as Brix (sugar level), pH (acid level), volatile components (aromas), etc. These are nice indicators because they tell you exactly in numbers where the grapes are in their ripening process. However, they work in conjunction with qualitative and objective reasons to harvest as well.

Qualitative indicators are a little more vague and involve the visual and sensory integrity of the grape. This is left to the people with the most sensitive taste buds and the most experience in the field. Basically, this indication of harvest is how the grapes taste and look. Even if some quantitative factors aren't where they "should" be the grapes may still taste dead on to the type of wine you wish to make.

Lastly there are the objective factors. These actually have nothing to do with the grapes and are more circumstantial. If there is a big storm coming, harvest may occur a few days earlier than intended. If there isn't enough tank space, harvest may be held off longer than intended.

It is all these factors together that go into making a decision about harvesting not just any single one. So next time someone is talking about harvest, make sure they know the whole picture not just the sugar coating.

What is the OCP AVA?

Date Published:

Wednesday, September 21

The OCP AVA (Outer Coastal Plain American Viticulture Area) is a designated area in southern New Jersey that falls into the category of exceptional grape growing regions.

This region is defined as a maritime climate where most Vitis Vinifera grapes(Chardonnay, Cab. Sauv., Pinot Grigio etc.) that can not normally be grown in the mid-atlantic can flourish thanks to the moderating Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean. Also characteristic of this land is that it is flat land with a sandy to sandy-loam soil allowing the good drainage that these “European” varietals need.

The longer than usual growing season and the well drained soils allow this AVA to have the potential to produce the highest quality wines on the East Coast.

Fall is here and the Grape are loving it!

Date Published:

Friday, September 16

As the first few days of crisp fall air set in, all is well in the vineyard. Yes Irene gave us a little more rain than we expected (or really liked), but this nice fall air where it cools down in the evening and warms up in the day is perfect for grape growing. Our '11 wines still on the vine are sure to shine thanks to this onset of cooler temperatures. When it cools down at night the grapes slow down their processes causing acidity in the grape to remain crisp just like the weather. So what can you expect for our '11 wines as of right now? Subtler whites, full bodied and crisp Viognier and Chardonnay and reds that will be bold and strong in tannin and acidity. I know we're looking forward to the '11 vintage, are you? Let us know what you think on our Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/BellviewWinery

Until next time fans, cheers!

The Bellview Crew

Decennio

Date Published:

Monday, May 23

A decade. Decennio. Década. Décennie. Jahrzehnt. No matter what language you say it in, 10 years is globally recognized as a special milestone and one of the first big anniversaries a person or business can celebrate. We can hardly believe our doors have been open to such a wonderful public for 10 years now and decided what better way to show our appreciation for all your support than to throw an Anniversary Festival.

Our 10 Year Anniversary Festival will commence on Saturday June 4, 2011 at noon and will be filled with live music from bands such as Tony Mascara and Friends and the Dirk Quinn Band, various craft and prepared food vendors such as JD Gourmet and Kelography, as well as delicious meal vendors like Lazy River BBQ. There will also be PLENTY for the kids to enjoy as well such as pony rides and face painting. If you still haven't heard something to tickle your fancy, how does a fireworks display at 9 PM on Saturday evening sound?

Let us also not forget the main reason Bellview is here; wine. There will be an outdoor wine tasting of all 29 of our available wines. We will also be releasing in a limited quantity our 10 Year Anniversary wine titled Decennio. This wine is a dry red blend of Cabernet Franc and Syrah with notes of violets, black cherries, and a beautiful earthiness. After tasting our wine, make sure to fill up your glass and take a tour of our vineyards and winery.

This event runs both Saturday, June 4 from 12PM-9PM and Sunday, June 5 from 12PM-5PM. Admission is $10 (Children under 12 free!) and includes live music, fireworks, wine tasting, a souvenir wine glass, and tours of the facility. All arrivals after 6PM are asked to pay full admission.

Thank you all again for a wonderful 10 Years and we look forward to celebrating with you!

Agriculture is the beating heart of New Jersey economics, tourism, employment, and the state motto, "The Garden State". The Future Farmer's of America (FFA), is a national organization that enables high school students to pursue a career in agriculture and to continue the most fundamental tradition in our country; farming. In order to support the Atlantic County Chapter of the FFA, we will host a "View of the Vineyard" event on May 14 from 9AM-12PM. The event will include a walking tour of the vineyard and an explanation of the importance of viticulture (grape growing) to Enology (winemaking, New Jersey Agriculture and NJ Agri-tourism. Along with a walk through the vineyard, attendees will also enjoy a live Bee demonstration and why they are so important as pollinators. The admission for this incredible experience is $10 of which all will be donated to the Atlantic County FFA Scholarship Fund along with 5% of all wine sales that day. Please come out and support local agriculture and the bright young faces of those that wish to carry on the tradition in the future.

Give your Mom a relaxing day of wine and dessert tasting at the winery this Saturday and Sunday from 11-5 both days. Our resident cook, Nancy Q (also a mother to 3 strapping men), has been baking up a storm making such delectable treats as Pineapple Bars, Apricot Coconut Cookies, Chocolate Walnut Bars, and much, much more.
